Joanne Shafer, Deputy Executive Director/Recycling Coordinator
Joanne is the Deputy Executive Director/Recycling Coordinator for the Centre County Solid Waste Authority. She manages the countywide recycling program, including curbside collection from 22,000 households, a system of over 125 drop-off sites, commercial recycling from 510 establishments and a source separated Materials Recovery Facility with a yearly capacity of 15,000 tons. With the Centre County Solid Waste Authority since 1990, she is also responsible for recycling public education throughout Centre County and the marketing of all recyclable commodities from the Centre County MRF. Joanne serves on the Board of PROP and is a past President of the organization. Joanne is one of Pennsylvania’s first twelve Senior Certified Recycling Professionals. She also serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center.
William M. Heenan, Jr., President of the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI)
Bill Heenan serves as President of the Steel Recycling Institute (SRI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute. He assumed this position in October 1990, following nearly two years of service as Chairman of the Board for the Institute. In this position, he oversees the activities of the organization, which conducts recycling infrastructure, legislative, marketing, education and public relations programs to promote and sustain steel recycling throughout the United States and Canada.
Prior to assuming this current position, Mr. Heenan was General Manager, Tin Mill Products, for United States Steel Corporation, a position to which he was appointed in 1988. Mr. Heenan received a B.S. in Marketing/Accounting from St. Thomas University. He is a member of several organizations, a lifetime board member of the National Recycling Coalition, a board member of the Pennsylvania Recycling Markets Center and Keep America Beautiful, Inc., and the co-chairperson of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. Mr. Heenan was named “Recycler of the Year” by the National Recycling Coalition (NRC) at the 2004 National Recycling Coalition’s Congress & Exposition in San Francisco.
Jim Shillenn, Executive Director of IMC
Jim Shillenn has been Executive Director of IMC since August 1995. Prior to joining IMC, Jim spent nearly 20 years with Penn State University. While at Penn State he held positions in the College of Engineering, the Biotechnology Institute and was Executive Director of the Bioprocessing Resource Center, which provided manufacturing process development assistance to the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries.
Currently, Jim is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturers Resource Center and Recycling Markets Center. He also serves on the Corporate Advisory Board for Penn College and the Advisory Board for the Plastic's Manufacturing Center at Penn College. He is also past chairman of Pennsylvania's Industrial Resource Center Network and is now serving as secretary.
Jim graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Biology and served over three years of active duty in the U.S. Army. Main Office, Williamsport, PA.
